Play Like a Girl+
Building on CA AB 2404: Equality for Girls in Sports
The City of El Cerrito Recreation Department will host its first annual Play Like a Girl+ event on Sunday, September 24th, 2023 from 9am-1pm. The event aims to build upon AB 2404, which was signed into California law to expand opportunities for girls to play sports in community parks and recreation. The goal of Play Like a Girl+ is to introduce girls+ in grades 2-6 to a variety of sports in a fun-filled setting as well as provide encouragement and resources for long-term involvement in athletics.
The event will take place at the El Cerrito Community Center and Cerrito Vista Park, and is free to participants though advance registration is required. After a welcome from the keynote speaker, participants will get to experience two athletic sessions in which they are introduced to a sport that interests them, as well as visit booths of local sports clubs and teams.
Registration open! At the time of registration, girls+ will be provided a list of sports being featured at the event, and will choose their top 3-4. Assignments will be provided closer to the event.
