Community Police Academy

The El Cerrito Police Department is currently accepting applications for an upcoming Community Police Academy.

The Community Police Academy (CPA) is an opportunity for members of the community to learn about the ECPD; including the 'How' and 'Why' we operate.

Participants will be presented with a variety of topics, including; patrol operations, communications, evidence collection, hiring and recruitment, traffic, animal control, laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of force, investigations, crime analysis, police procedures, ethical issues, and many others. The sessions are designed to encourage student interactions that involve asking questions and performing hands-on activities. A tour of the police facility and patrol equipment is included in the first session. There will also be opportunities for ride-a-longs with patrol officers. Each session will be taught by a member of the El Cerrito Police Department who has special expertise and years of practical experience in his/her respective subject.

For those interested in attending the next Community Academy, candidates must be 18 years or older, reside in El Cerrito and pass a background check before being accepted into the Community Police Academy. (Note: Exceptions to the residency restriction will be considered on an individual basis.)

Completion of the CPA is a great way to begin service with the ECPD as a Police Volunteer!
