2015 Slurry Seal and Curb Ramp Program

The City of El Cerrito’s Public Works Department has started construction of the annual pavement and curb ramp maintenance program for 2015.

There will be curb ramp construction / modifications at the following intersections:

  • Arlington Blvd. at Barrett Ave., Lagunitas Ave, and Potrero Ave. / Moeser Ln
  • Kearney St. & Wall St.
  • Tamalpais Dr. & Jordan Dr.
  • Terrace Dr. at Park Way, Hancock Way, Galvin Dr., and Stockton Ave.
  • San Diego St. at Belmont Ave., Santa Clara Ave., and Yosemite Ave.
The pavement work will include asphalt spot repairs and slurry seal of the entire roadway at the following locations:
  • Arlington Blvd. – Cutting Blvd. to Barrett Ave.
  • Arlington Blvd. – Potrero Ave. to Madera Dr.
  • Arlington Blvd. – Arbor Dr. to South City Limit
  • Blake St. – Lexington Ave. to San Pablo Ave.
  • Conlon Ave. – San Pablo Ave. to Kearney St.
  • Wall Ave. – San Pablo Ave. to Kearney St.
  • Harvard St. – View Ave. to End
  • Tamalpais Ave. – Cutting Blvd. to Lagunitas Ave.
  • Terrace Dr. – Hancock Way to Stockton Ave.
  • San Diego St. – San Pablo Ave. to West City Limit
  • Yosemite Ave. – End to Avila Ave.
  • Kearney St. – Manila Ave. to North End
  • Manila Ave. – Kearney St. to San Pablo Ave.
  • Lagunitas Avenue - Arlington Blvd to Cutting Blvd.

The contractor will apply a slurry seal coat over the road's surface. After the slurry is dried, the street is rolled with a rubber tire roller to cure the slurry. The street is opened for driving after 4-5 hours. Weather conditions may impact the slurry and cause delays in the street opening. When complete, the street's surface will be uniform and black in color. After a few days, the contractor will return and stripe lane lines and legends.

Construction is Underway!

Construction efforts have begun and are expected to be completed late 2015. The following work is taking place November 12 through November 16. Please look here for a color coded map showing the streets that are included in the project and the schedule for when the work will take place. The map also shows whether the work on a particular street involves a temporary complete road closure or a temporary partial closure that will provide for flagmen-controlled traffic. Here is a brief summary of the schedule:

  • Tamalpais Ave. - Cutting Blvd. to Lagunitas Ave.
  • Terrace Dr. - Hancock Way to Galvin Dr.

Traffic Impacts: In general, lane closures or complete road closures will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with modified hours to accommodate pick-up and drop-off times near schools. Emergency vehicles will always be allowed to proceed through the work site. All lanes of traffic will be restored no later than 5 p.m. each day.

The work on Arlington Blvd. will be done so that one way traffic, flagmen controlled, is always provided. Expect delays of up to ten minutes. City Hall Visitors, please park at the City Parking Lot located to the north of the Public Safety Building on San Pablo Ave. on Friday, November 13 when the City Hall parking lot is closed for resurfacing. The work on all other streets will be done under full roadway closure, with detour signage provided to the most convenient and safe route.
