EC STARS
City staff has been working with WCCUSD staff in preparation of the 2nd El Cerrito Students Training And Ready for Success (EC STARS) Internship Program this summer. This program is open to juniors at El Cerrito High School (ECHS) in the IT and Media academies. EC STARS Internship Program is an eight week program that will begin Monday, June 16 and end Friday, August 8. Students will work an average of 10-20 hours a week and receive classroom enrichment every Friday. The entire premise of the program is to link students to local government employment by providing skill building internships in the City of El Cerrito. The Program will begin with a Job Fair at ECHS on Wednesday, April 23. This will afford students an opportunity to engage with department representatives about internship assignments. Students must submit a completed application, a personal statement and a letter of recommendation from an advisor, counselor or IT/Media academy teacher/coordinator by Friday, May 2. Students who meet the requirements of the program will be invited to a panel interview with City staff the week of May 19 with final Intern selections on Monday, June 2.

Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)
Staff is working with Carol Barake, Loss Control Advisor at the Municipal Pooling Authority to update the City’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). The IIPP is a safety action plan used to control hazards and train employees on job hazards. Benefits of an effective program will result in fewer injuries and illnesses and increase workforce productivity.
