From the City Manager's Update dated June 23, 2016:
El Cerrito Fire Department's Captain Kevin Janes was dispatched on June 17 as part of his Incident Management Team to the Sherpa Fire in the Las Padres National Forest in Santa Barbara County. The fire started on June 15 and has now grown to approximately 8,000 acres. Close to 300 homes have been evacuated or threatened, but at this point only one has been lost. Captain Janes is working as a Communication Manager at this incident. As of this morning the fire was 54% contained. Captain James reports that all is going well with the incident management team and he expects that the fire will be contained and wrapping up later on this week or early next week. However he says that there are other fires that have started in the Angeles National Forest so it is possible that his team may get diverted if they are released from this one early. Please keep all the personnel who are on these wildfires in your thoughts and wish them a safe return home.
