Assault on Ohlone Greenway

On May 12, a juvenile was walking to the Ohlone Greenway on a path connected to Kearney St. A man ran up to her and sexually assaulted her. The suspect fled northbound along the pathway after stealing some of the victim’s property. The victim defended herself by scratching the suspect on his face. Investigators continue to look for evidentiary leads in the case and the Patrol Division is focusing on increased patrol in and around the Ohlone Greenway.

Medical Emergency

On the evening of May 31, El Cerrito Police Officers and Firefighters responded to a medical emergency involving a non-breathing 3-month-old baby. An El Cerrito Police Officer was the first to arrive in response to the family’s 9-1-1 call. He evaluated the child and identified that the child was not breathing and did not have a discernible pulse. The officer began administering CPR. El Cerrito Firefighters arrived at the scene and took over life saving efforts. Through the combined efforts of the ECPD, ECFD and AMR paramedics, rescuers restored the child’s breathing.

Memorial Day Weekend Burglaries

El Cerrito Police Officers investigated 4 residential burglaries over the holiday weekend. Suspects entered houses by prying doors and through unlocked entrances. The ECPD encourages residents and employees to review their home security leading up to the July 4th holiday weekend. In addition, residents can take advantage of vacation home checks through the ECPD website.
