The Fire Department has been very busy since early June providing mutual aid throughout the state. The Department has responded to eight different incidents as follows:
- Sherpa 6/17 - 6/21
- Erskine 6/25 - 7/3
- Pine 7/3 – 7/10
- Soberanes 7/24 - 8/5
- Clayton 8/14 – 8/17
- Blue Cut 8/17 – 8/20
- Chimney 8/22 - 8/28
- Soberanes 9/2 - still assigned
While deployed at these incidents Fire Department personnel have been assigned to completing structure protection operations, mopping up fire lines, building containment lines, managing strike teams of engines, managing communication units and working as Fire Line paramedics. It should be noted that many of these assignments require the personnel to work 24 hour shifts on the fire line.
The Fire Chief was very happy to report that the department has suffered no injuries to personnel or damage to apparatus during these assignments.
Firefighter Recruitment
The City has completed the recruitment process and has hired Adam Birdsell and Mason Campbell. Adam was a Firefighter/Paramedic for the Rodeo-Hercules Fire District and Mason was a Paramedic with American Medical Response before accepting Firefighter positions here in El Cerrito. You are sure to see them around over the next few weeks as they complete their entry level training.
