24 Hour Fitness Proposed for Former Safeway Site

Posted on September 14, 2020 at 11:06 AM by Margaret Livingston

On August 17, 2017 at 5:00 p.m., the Zoning Administrator will conduct a public hearing to consider Tier I Design Review and an Administrative Use Permit for the existing retail building located at 10636 San Pablo Avenue (former Safeway building). The applicant is proposing to renovate the existing building to accommodate an approximately 34,000-square foot fitness club (24 Hour Fitness). The exterior changes are minor and include new paint and new signage. An Administrative Use Permit is required for the Large-scale Commercial Recreation land use. Interior changes (which are not part of the Zoning Administrator’s review) include the addition of an indoor pool, locker rooms and exercise spaces required for a large-scale fitness club. Information on all of the above projects can be found under the Major Projects section of the City’s website: www.el-cerrito.org/majorprojects
