The El Cerrito Public Works Department is partnering with the City of Albany to employ a volunteer intern from Albany High School to remove and characterize litter in the Cerrito Creek corridor, which borders El Cerrito and Albany. As part of his Advanced Placement Environmental Studies curriculum, Leo Torrez will put in time every Friday from September 13 through November 22, 2013 removing litter from this important El Cerrito resource. These efforts help to keep the creek - and, ultimately, the Bay and ocean - clear of litter and debris, which is especially important as we enter the rainy season. Activities such as these are required per the terms of the Municipal Regional Permit for storm water discharges, and will also help identify potential sources of litter that could inform future policy decisions about litter mitigation.
