The Annual Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, December 14th from 9 to 11 am at the Community Center. In addition to a full breakfast of pancakes,
eggs, and sausage, attendees will be entertained with holiday songs sung by
members of our childcare and preschools, a professional storyteller, and a visit
from Santa. Tickets are on sale now and online at www.el-cerrito.org/recreation.

Holiday Break Camp for grades K-6 will be held on 12/23, 12/26-27 & 12/30, 9:00
a.m. to 3:00p.m. at the Community Center. Highlights include bowling and trips to
Playland-Not-at-the-Beach and the Cerrito Theater.

Trainings
Now that the school year is well under way, most Recreation staff is undergoing
CPR and First Aid training. Staff is also participating for the first time in a number
of "E-Learning" online trainings in topics such as Managers vs. Leaders, Customer
Service, and Behavior Management. The online trainings have proven to be very
beneficial to staff by offering current content and providing an economical and
efficient method of training the Department's large number of part-time staff.

Swim Center
The Swim Center has begun its off-season, reduced schedule. The Small Pool
and Splash Park are now closed for the winter. Swim lessons will resume in
February 2014. Staff is currently receiving bids to complete the landscaping in
the Splash Park and Community Center Parking Lot as well as pool heaters which
will be more durable, less costly to repair, and achieve greater energy efficiency.
A request for authorization to purchase the pool heaters will be presented to the
City Council in December.
