Art at BART

Posted to City Manager's Updates on February 24, 2016 at 8:42 AM by Suzanne Iarla

As part of the Station Modernization project at the El Cerrito del Norte Station, BART will be commissioning permanent art works (two mosaic tile murals inside the station) to be installed at the station. Over the summer, BART issued a competitive RFQ for artists and convened a review panel in December. The panel included BART staff members as well as the following community representatives: Assistant to the City Manager Suzanne Iarla, Arts & Culture Commissioner George Gager, El Cerrito Art Association President Jean Sichterman, and Michele Seville, Arts & Culture Manager for the City of Richmond. Earlier this week, the Arts & Culture Commission hosted an informal roundtable with the top three artists who BART invited to develop a proposal for the artworks. The three finalists will submit their proposals to BART this spring and then the review panel will make a recommendation to the BART Board of Directors regarding which artist to commission. More information about art at BART is available on the BART website:
