April is Distracted Driving Month

Posted to City Manager's Updates on February 2, 2017 at 2:20 PM by Margaret Livingston

April is distracted driving month statewide. The ECPD is vigorously enforcing the vehicle code sections that pertain to distracting actions that affect driver safety, including, texting, wearing ear buds, and eating while driving. Last year, the Department cited 404 persons in one month in an effort to reduce collisions in our city. Officers even cited one driver for eating a bowl of cereal while driving, another for assembling a fish tank while driving, and others for unsafe actions.

Police Dept. Operational Updates

Posted to City Manager's Updates on February 24, 2016 at 9:02 AM by Suzanne Iarla

  • Detectives identified suspects and received arrest warrants for two persons that robbed a pedestrian on the Ohlone Greenway. Officers made the arrests in Antioch with the aid of Antioch SWAT.
  • The Department hosted a reception and tour for the Explorer families who were very impressed with our advisors and the K-9 demonstration.
  • PD staff held a community forum on body worn cameras (BWC) and other technology that was well attended. The Department will hold another forum and meet with WCCUSD staff and parents about the use of BWC’s on campuses in El Cerrito.
  • Command and supervisory staff were trained on new software called IAPRO and Blue Team. It is designed to increase accountability and tracking of a variety of measures such as use of force, enhance early warning systems, serve as a database for California DOJ reporting guidelines effective in 2020, and reduce potential liability.
