Through a contract with Real Goods Solar, the City is in the process of installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at several sites in the City. Installation of the 124 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the Public Safety Building is nearly complete, pending site clean-up and reconstruction of landscaping. The PV panels have been connected to the building’s electrical service. Upon final inspections by the City and PG&E, PG&E will provide the City with a “permission to operate” and to connect the system to the electrical grid. A smaller 8 kW at the Recycling Environmental Resource Center (RERC) received permission to operate in early April and, in combination with solar panels already installed there, will help the RERC achieve net-zero energy.
Installation of 188 kW of solar at the Community/Swim Center was temporarily delayed due to unforeseen underground obstructions. Installation is now scheduled for early summer. Construction of carports to support the solar will cause a temporary partial closure of the Community Center parking lot. More information will be provided to the public as construction times are solidified.
