The Tree Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council, other commissions, and the citizens of the City with regard to the growth, maintenance, and location of trees within the City;
recommends programs, policies, and ordinances to implement and promote the City’s Master Street Tree Plan and Urban Forest Management Plan and coordinates with Public Works Department staff regarding management and maintenance efforts; public awareness, education, interest and support for urban forestry efforts, fosters volunteer opportunities for tree planting and irrigation along the city’s streets and in residential front yards, and educates residents regarding selecting, planting and maintaining trees; and promote public awareness and education concerning potential hazards about above ground and underground utilities and provides information about appropriate tree species and varieties.

Tree Committee Recruitment Currently Underway
The El Cerrito City Council has established a new Tree Committee. The Committee, once formed, will consist of between 5-15 members. Initial membership will be 7-8 members with an equivalent amount of members appointed next year. Terms are four years. The Tree Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council, other commissions, and the citizens of the City with regard to the growth, maintenance, and location of trees within the City; recommends programs, policies, and ordinances to implement and promote the City’s Master Street Tree Plan and Urban Forest Management Plan and coordinates with Public Works Department staff regarding management and maintenance efforts; public awareness, education, interest and support for urban forestry efforts, fosters volunteer opportunities for tree planting and irrigation along the city’s streets and in residential front yards. You do not have to have horticulture or arboriculture experience to serve on this committee.
Serving on a board or commission can be a rewarding experience for community service-minded residents. It is an excellent way to participate in the functioning of local government and to make a personal contribution to the improvement of the El Cerrito community. All residents interested in serving on this important committee are invited to submit an application for consideration until all positions are filled.
