In August, 2010, BART sent out the following notice:

As part of our systemwide Earthquake Safety Program,
BART will soon begin strengthening the elevated structures at El Cerrito del Norte Station to better withstand future earthquakes. Special care will be taken to minimize the impact to the public: physical barriers will separate work locations from the public, noise and dust will be monitored, and advance notice will be given as different construction activities begin. However, you can expect construction-related noise, dust, traffic and parking impacts, and pedestrian detours. Please watch for signs with safety information and other notices. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this work.
