Bike to Work Day
The City of El Cerrito strives to promote bicycling and walking as modes of transportation through design, designation, programs, policies and education. Each year, the City participates in the regional "Bike to Work Day" by hosting an Energizer Station and other events. Energizer Stations are a big part of Bike to Work Day-Located along many commute routes during morning commute hours, bicyclists can stop by for refreshments, giveaways, and bicycling information or simply to be 'cheered on' by fellow participants.

Bike to Work Day - Thursday, May 9, 2013.

On Bike to Work Day 2013, the City of El Cerrito will once again host an Energizer Station on the Ohlone Greenway at the El Cerrito Plaza BART station.

City staff from Public Works, the Police Department and Environmental Services will be at the Energizer Station to talk about a variety of current City projects as well as hear ideas about how to create a more walkable, bikeable, and sustainable City.  “In addition to promoting the regional theme to celebrate bicycling as a healthy, fun, and economical form of transportation, we want to be able to meet with community members and hear their ideas about cycling in El Cerrito” said Melanie Mintz, Environmental Services Division Manager with the City of El Cerrito.

This annual event is supported by many local businesses. In addition to the businesses who support the regional Bike to Work Day effort,     El Cerrito’s Energizer Station received support from the East Bay Bicycle Coalition, West Contra Costa Transportation Committee, Contra Costa 511 and
  • Well Grounded Tea and Coffee Bar
  • El Cerrito Natural Grocery Store
  • Jamba Juice

For the second year, the El Cerrito Energizer Station will include a special “Ride-Through Photo Arch” to capture photographs of bicyclists coming to the Energizer Station. Visit the Photo Gallery to see photos from 2012.
