October Arts Month Kick-Off Celebration

Everyone’s invited to a kickoff celebration of Arts Month sponsored by the City of El Cerrito Arts & Culture Commission. This event will highlight the tremendous creativity and commitment of local artists and arts organizations.   Come enjoy these great performances in


Latin Afro Pop! – Guarandinga
Infectious original dance music with a unique Afro-Venezuelan beat!

Chinese Traditional Dance and Folk Dance – Ah-Lan Dance Studio
Ah-Lan has been teaching Chinese dance, ballet, and modern dance in El Cerrito and Albany for over fifteen years. Her students will present an exciting dance and arts performance, highlighting their training in a variety of cultural forms, including Tibetan, Mongolian, Uighur, and traditional Tai-Chi dance and Han dance.

Songs from “My Fair Lady” – Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT)
Cast members of this fall’s CCCT production will sing a medley of beloved songs from the classic Lerner and Loewe musical!

Poetry and Music – Maw Shein Win
El Cerrito’s first poet laureate Maw Shein Win will reads from her new chapbook on Nomadic Press, Score and Bone, accompanied by El Cerrito musicians, Dan Plonsey and Thomas Scandura.

Reading of "The Tell-Tale Heart" - George McRae
To get in the mood for Halloween, actor George McRae will perform a reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic story "The Tell-Tale Heart". 
Artist Nga Trinh will offer a fun origami workshop - learn how to fold a Samurai Hat, a Glider and a Fan. There will also be refreshments by EncoreCakes, and information and display booths sponsored by a variety of local arts organizations.
