Summit K2 Charter School

This page serves as resource center for city documents related to 1800 Elm Street.

Summit K2 Charter School currently operates a 7-8 grade school at the 1800 Elm Street.  In January 2014, the Planning Commission determined that the operation of the school was consistent with the existing use permit and master plan which were approved for the site in 2007.

In January 2015, the property owner, Education Matters, submitted an application to operate a 7-12 school at the site.  The applicant is proposing a maximum of of 630 students during the school year and a maximum of 315 students during the summer session.  The applicant is also proposing to extend the school day by 30 minutes, establishing primary hours of operation from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The City of El Cerrito has determined that the proposed expansion of grade levels, students and hours requires preparation of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

A Notice of Preparation has been issued for the EIR.  The City will hold a scoping meeting for the EIR on December 2, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 10890 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito.  The meeting is an opportunity for interested parties to share comments about topics that should be analyzed in the EIR. Written comments on the scope of the EIR can also be submitted to Sean Moss, Senior Planner by 5:00 p.m. on December 22, 2015.  There will be additional opportunity to comment on the EIR, once the Draft EIR is published.
