Clean Up El Cerrito's Northern Gateway

Join El Cerrito's Green Teams as we clean up the northern entryways to town. Let's keep trash from polluting our creeks and the bay, and let's present visitors with a positive first impression of our city.

Recharge Your Lunch -- National Drive Electric Week Event

Test drive and learn all about electric vehicles (EV) at this free, fun and informative event. The El Cerrito Environmental Quality Committee is co-sponsoring this event with our neighbors in Richmond and Albany. Check out the cars while you grab a bite at a food truck. Cerrito Creek Cleanup on Coastal Cleanup Day

Creekside Park, 3499 Santa Clara Avenue, El Cerrito

On Coastal Cleanup Day, join El Cerrito Green Teams and Friends of Five Creeks removing trash and invasives along Cerrito Creek. Meet at El Cerrito's Creekside Park, south end of Santa Clara Ave. (3499 Santa Clara on Internet maps). All ages welcome; there's a play structure for very young children. Free Workshop: The Drought Resilient Garden
Tuesday, September 27, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Back by popular demand, this free workshop will provide you with information on residential water conservation and re-use strategies, technologies and rebates. Representatives from EBMUD and the non-profit Greywater Action will be on hand to discuss: common irrigation mistakes; establishing a drought tolerant garden; water-saving devices and rebates; and how to set up a laundry to landscape greywater system. Sponsored by the Environmental Quality Committee.

Saturday, October 1 through Friday, October 7, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Recycling Center, 7501 Schmidt Lane, El Cerrito

Free compost made from your yard waste and food scraps. El Cerrito residents & businesses only. Bring proof of residency and containers. Limit of 5 cubic feet per household. Available while supply lasts. We will have a shovel available, however, you may want to bring one.

Recycling Center Winter Hours
November 1, 2016 through February 1, 2017
Monday - Friday: 8:0 AM to 4:45 PM
Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM

The El Cerrito Recycling & Environmental Resource Center will be closing 1 hour earlier on weekdays due to the shorter days of winter.

Holiday Schedule for Solid Waste Collection

The El Cerrito Recycling & Environmental Resource Center and East Bay Sanitary offices will be closed for business for the following holidays: Labor Day (September 5), Veterans Day (November 11), Thanksgiving Day (November 24), Christmas (work holiday observed on December 26), and New Year’s Day (work holiday observed on January 2).

Curbside collection of Recycling, Green Waste, and Garbage will occur as normally scheduled on these holidays. Christmas trees will be picked up free of charge through January 13.

The EQC is a Council-appointed body of residents and business representatives who work to involve the community directly in understanding and reducing our impact on the environment. Regular meetings of the EQC often host informative presentations on environmental issues and policies. Vegetable Gardening in El Cerrito

4th Saturdays, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
The El Cerrito Community Garden Network and El Cerrito Library are teaming up to provide a series of monthly introductory vegetable gardening workshops running April through November, no workshop in August.  The workshop format will be a 30-minute presentation at the Library and then a hands-on project (30-60 minutes) at the nearby Community Demonstration Garden in Fairmont Park.
