Urban Greening Plan Adoption Process

The public comment period for the Urban Greening Plan Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) closed November 2nd, and city staff will bring the Plan and Initial Study to the Planning Commission on November 18th, 2015 and City Council for approval on December 15, 2015. You can see the latest version of the Urban Greening Plan at the link above. Staff reports for the Planning Commission and City Council will be available prior to the meeting at the Planning Commission and City Council webpages and the Urban Greening webpage (above).

Sand and Sand Bags Now Available at  New Location Inside the El Cerrito Recycling Center 

The sand pile and bags are available for El Cerrito and Kensington residents only. Empty bags can be picked up from the Recycling Center Office at 7501 Schmidt Lane, Monday through Sunday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Please bring proof of residency.

The sand enclosure is now in a new location inside the El Cerrito Recycling & Environmental Resource Center. You will need to fill the bags yourself, but shovels will be provided. Sand is available on a first-come first-served basis.

In the event of an upcoming storm, the City will also have sand available for residents on Schmidt Lane for after hours use.

Recycling Center's Drop-off  Winter Hours start November 1, 2015
Winter Hours:  Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:45 PM | Saturday & Sunday 9:00 AM - 4:45 PM 

Starting November 1, 2015, the Recycling Center will begin closing at 4:45 PM during the week.  The winter hours do not affect weekend drop-off hours.  The Administrative Business office remain the same: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM seven days a week.

Winter Holiday Schedule for Curbside Service & Recycling Center

Curbside collection of recycling, greenwaste and garbage will not occur on Friday, 12-25-15 or 1-1-16. Curbside collection that is normally scheduled for Friday will occur one day late, on Saturday. 
The Drop-off Recycling Center will be closing at 12 PM on 12-31-15; and closed the following days: 12-24-15, 12-25-15, and 1-1-16. Questions? 510-215-4350

El Cerrito Environmental Quality Committee (EQC)
Meets every 2nd Tuesday | 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
El Cerrito City Hall Council Chambers, 10890  San Pablo Avenue
The EQC is a Council-appointed body of residents and business representatives who work to involve the community directly in understanding and reducing our impact on the environment. Regular meetings of the EQC often host informative presentations on environmental issues and policies. Vegetable Gardening in El Cerrito

4th Saturdays, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
The El Cerrito Community Garden Network and El Cerrito Library are teaming up to provide a series of monthly introductory vegetable gardening workshops running April through November, no workshop in August.  The workshop format will be a 30-minute presentation at the Library and then a hands-on project (30-60 minutes) at the nearby Community Demonstration Garden in Fairmont Park.
