Participating on a board, commission, or commitee can be a rewarding experience for community service-minded residents. It is an excellent way to participate in the functioning of our local government and to make a personal contribution to the improvement of the El Cerrito community. The City Council invites all residents interested in serving on a board, commission, or committee to apply NOW!

Applications for Planning Commission and Design Review Board are due by Friday, November 20, 2009. The deadline for all other boards, commissions, or committees is Friday, December 4, 2009 by 12:00 p.m. in the City Clerk's office.

The City Council encourages residents to apply at any time, year-round, in case any unexpected vacancies occur. Any applications received after the December 4 deadline will be kept on file for this purpose.

Once an application is received for a board or commission, the City Council conducts brief interviews with applicants before they fill a vacancy. For this upcoming round of applications, these interviews will be scheduled with the City Council in December 2009 and January 2010. If you are applying to serve on a committee, there are different membership criteria, and residents are encouraged to attend a meeting of the committee to learn more details.
