Regional Bodies

In addition to the local Boards and Commissions, the City Council interviews and appoints a representative for the Regional Bodies listed below. Residents interested in representing El Cerrito on a Regional Body begin the process by submitting an application of interest to the City Clerk. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, reside in El Cerrito and be a Contra Costa County taxpayer.

Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging
The Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging (ACOA) advises the Board of Supervisors on all matters associated with the planning, development and administration of programs relating to older adults. The ACOA acts as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors in the development and implementation of the County's Area Plan by the Department of Aging and Adult Services. The ACOA is comprised of 40 members: 19 appointed by each of the local jurisdictions within Contra Costa; one representative from the Nutrition Project Council, and 20 at-large members. ACOA members are appointed to serve a two-year term and there are no term limits

Library Commission

The Commission was created to: a) serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors and the County Librarian; b) provide a community linkage to the County Librarian; c) establish a forum for the community to express its views regarding the goals and operations of the County Library; d) assist the Board of Supervisors and the County Librarian to provide library services based on assessed public need; e) develop and recommend proposals to the Board of Supervisors and County Librarian for the betterment of the County Library including, but not limited to, such efforts as insuring a stable and adequate funding level for the libraries in the County.  The Commission is composed of 29 members.  Per by-laws, terms are four years and there are no term limits.

Mosquito and Vector Control District Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees are officials appointed by their respective City Councils to govern the Mosquito and Vector Control District knowledgeably and effectively. They serve without compensation but are provided with an allowance to defray expenses while on official business (not to exceed $100 per month) in accordance with the California Health and Safety Code Section 2030(b). Trustees do not receive any type of benefits and serve for a term of two to four years. No term limit.

Contra Costa Transportation Authority Citizens Advisory Committee
The CCTA-CAC provides a citizen perspective, participation and involvement in the CCTA’s $3 billion voter approved Transportation Expenditure Plan and Growth Management Program. The CAC is comprised of 23 members: 20 are appointed by each of the 20 local jurisdictions within Contra Costa County; three “at large” members are nominated by community-based stakeholder organizations within Contra Costa, and subsequently appointed to the CAC by CCTA. Per by-laws, CAC members are appointed to serve for a four-year term and there are no term limits.
