El Cerrito Recycling + Environmental Resource Center
El Cerrito is noteworthy for its modern recycling center, Where Recycling is a Pleasure. The facility is a model for other communities to replicate the process and the steps that led to its construction. Master Fee Schedule
Beginning July 1, 2023, fees for non-residents to drop off Pharmaceuticals, Sharps, Fluorescent Tubes, or large quantities of certain materials will be:
• Pharmaceuticals: $4.00 per drop-off
• Sharps: $4.00 per drop-off
• Fluorescent Tubes: $0.70 per linear foot
• Large Quantity of Books, Magazines, Cardboard, or Paper: $8.00 per cubic yard (~26 bankers boxes)

The Center offers community members a convenient way to reduce their environmental footprint. The Center is a one-stop shop for reuse and recycling. It’s also the hub of El Cerrito’s environmental programs and activities, from energy efficiency and climate action to urban greening. As a LEED facility that features a zero-net energy building, recycled rain-water catchment, rain gardens, native plantings and reused building materials, the Center is a living model of sustainability.

The Recycling Center and Offices are closed the following holidays:
New Year's Day, Dr. MLK Jr. Birthday, Presidents' Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day (and the day after), Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day, and starting at Noon on New Year's Eve Day.
