The City of Richmond, in concert with the City of El Cerrito, is currently working on the Richmond-Ohlone Greenway Gap Closure Project. The project includes the third phase of the Richmond Greenway Project, which will provide a continuous bicycle and pedestrian pathway from South Garrard Boulevard and the Richmond Parkway in Richmond to San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito. The project results in connecting the San Francisco Bay Trail at the west with the Ohlone Greenway in El Cerrito at the east. The project improvements includes installation of the new multi-use trail, a new crosswalk and traffic signal on San Pablo Avenue, and a new bridge over realigned Baxter Creek as well as associated improvements and landscaping.
The Richmond City Council approved a contract with Ghilotti Construction Company of Santa Rosa in late 2016. Construction is anticipated to begin in March 2017.
Construction underway
San Pablo Avenue will be closed one lane at a time and across San Pablo Avenue (Northbound and Southbound lanes) to install conduits for a new traffic signal. Work will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. beginning Tuesday, November 14 for approximately one week.
